Texture Match
Texture matching is an important step in the texture application process. Without texture match, your walls will look very odd and not like they did before the damage occurred. If you’re wondering what texture match is and how it should be done, read on to find out more.
We’ll go over:
- What Is Texture Match?
- What Happens During Texture Match?
- Who Will Perform Texture Match For Me?
The texture match techniques discussed in this article are basic techniques. The texture matches described do not always turn out perfect because of limitations in paint mixing technology due to the many variables that dictate texture finishes. These variables include but are not limited to paint texture, substrate texture, and condition.
What Is Texture Match?
Texture match is the process of matching texture on a repaired surface (drywall or metal) to texture on an undamaged area. The objective is not for the repair texture to look identical to the original texture but to blend in with it as best as possible. Many times, after a repiping plumber is done repairing or replacing a pipe in your home, they will offer drywall repair with texture match.
What Happens During A Texture Match?
Texture match is more than just slapping texture on a wall and calling it good. There are certain steps that must be followed at times to get texture match down correctly:
Surface Preparation and Prime and Paint Application
When the texture on an undamaged surface is prepared correctly, the texture on the repaired area will blend in better with the texture on the undamaged area. When it comes time for actually applying texture, multiple layers of texture may be needed to restore original texture dimensions. This may include one or two base coats of texture and several top coats of texture to complete the full opacity of the color. Work one small section at a time until the completion of the entire wall or ceiling. When previous layers have completely dried, move onto a new location and begin again.
Texture Matching Technique
This technique is used to duplicate a texture on a repaired surface. The texture match technician will take a small amount of the texture he or she is trying to match and place it on the substrate. Once it dries, they will then apply that texture to the repair area. This technique can be time-consuming and may not always turn out perfect because of limitations in paint mixing technology due to the many variables that dictate texture finishes. These variables include but are not limited to paint texture, substrate texture, and condition.
Who Will Perform Texture Match For Me?
If you are conducting a repiping project or, if you’re looking for someone to perform a texture match for you, you have a few different options contacting a professional texture company, contacting your texture company, or going it alone.
If texture match is a very complicated process for you and you have a reputable texture company nearby, they may provide texture match services as well as texture application. If texture match is something that you’re interested in learning how to do yourself, a local professional texture company should be able to instruct you on the steps involved with performing texture match.
