Keep on reading to learn more…

It is best to prepare the area around your toilet before you try to unclog it. It is better to be safe than sorry in case things take a turn for the worst. A few towels around the toilet should be enough to deal with any messy situations. Also, be sure to cover your hands with rubber gloves and have a large bucket nearby. Here is a step-by-step guide to how you can deal with a toilet drain clog using a plumber snake. Here is a great YouTube video as well on how to use a plumbing snake.

  • The first step in the process involves placing the end of the plumber snake into your toilet bowl. You want it to be pointing down towards the drain. Once you have it set, you are going to turn the handle on the plumber snake clockwise that will extend the cable in the plumber snake down towards the drain.
  • Most drain snakes have a fairly long cable inside of them. It can be anywhere between 15-25 feet long. So, you might need to keep cranking the handle for a little while, depending on how deep the clog is. You will know when you reach the clogged part because you will experience some resistance. When you reach the clog, you can stop moving the handle and prepare for the next step.
  • Okay, so now you have reached the clogged part of your drain. Push your plumber snake back and forth without too much force. After this, you can start to retract the cable slowly. The idea here is not to bring the whole clog up with the plumber snake, but instead to break it down to a point where you can easily flush it out.
  • Keep retracting the plumber snake cable till it is out of your toilet. If there is any clogged debris attached with it, dump it in the bucket you placed near you earlier. You will have to repeat this process until you are sure that the clog is clear and your toilet is functioning normally.

So, there you have it. Toilet clogs are a common problem and not a pleasant one, to say the least. A plumber snake can be a lifesaver in these situations if you know how to use it properly.
