4th of July Plumbing Tips!

Having a bar-b-que or party this 4th of July? With many people in your home, a plumbing problem could be inevitable! Whether it’s a clogged sink drain from dumping the wrong things in the garbage disposal, or an overflowing toilet, here are some great at-home plumbing tips this holiday! And if these at-home tips do not work, we are always here to handle any of your plumbing emergencies this holiday weekend! Call us today for a quick fix!

1. The Garbage Disposal

First, watch what you put down the garbage disposal! Your garbage disposal should not be treated like a waste basket! Certain stringy and starchy foods, like potato rinds and certain vegetables, are hard on your garbage disposal’s blades. Check out this great article on the do’s and don’ts when it comes to garbage disposals.

2. A Clogged Toilet

If your toilet clogs, follow these steps…

  • Turn off the water valve to the toilet (located behind the bowl)
  • DO NOT flush the toilet a second time
  • Use a plunger to try and break up the clog
  • Then try flushing the toilet again

If this does not work, and the clog is still present, contact us today and we will repair your toilet clog!

3. The Ice Maker Isn’t Working

One of the most common reasons an ice maker stops working is due to the water supply lines going to the machine. Sometimes the water lines get folded and stop supplying water to your ice maker. Check the water lines to make sure they are straight and working properly. If this does not fix the problem, call a professional plumber in Orange County to fix your ice maker!

4. There’s No Hot Water

No hot water in your house? If you have many guests taking showers or using your faucets, it can place a stain on your water heater. Give it some time for the water heater to reheat a new tank full of water. If the lack of hot water persists, call us today to diagnose your problem! It could be a simple fix like relighting your pilot light or it might be a larger issue. For the future, if you are looking for an unlimited supply of hot water, you may want to consider installing a tankless water heater.

5. The Gas Grill Isn’t Working

If your gas grill stops working all of a sudden, it could be your gas supply line. If the grill isn’t burning and you smell gas, you should close the gas line immediately and call an emergency plumber or your utility’s emergency gas line. Having gas lines that work properly are necessary for your grill to work correctly. We are gas line repair experts in Orange County. Contact us today!
